Bust ÷ hips
A value within 5% of 1.00 counts as balanced. Above 1.05 the bust carries more width; below 0.95 the hips do.

Measurement guide
Use a soft tape and stand relaxed. Keep the tape level and snug, with room for one finger underneath; do not pull it tight. Measure twice and keep the repeatable reading.
These positions are Bodytype's measuring convention, not a clinical protocol. The high hip is measured above the fullest part of the hip and is not the same as the hip measurement.
Rules
The calculator compares three ratios: bust to hip, waist to hip, and high hip to hip. Ratios cancel out the unit, so centimetres and inches produce the same result. The rules do not use gender, age, height, or weight, so the calculator does not ask for them.
A value within 5% of 1.00 counts as balanced. Above 1.05 the bust carries more width; below 0.95 the hips do.
At or below 0.80 the waist reads as defined. At or above 0.88 it reads as undefined, and the middle carries more of the visual line.
At or below 0.95 the hip curve continues below the high hip. Above it, the high hip is nearly as wide as the full hip.
| Reading | Rule |
|---|---|
| Inverted triangle | Bust above 105% of hips. |
| Pear | Bust below 95% of hips. |
| Apple | Bust within 5% of hips and waist at or above 88% of hips. |
| Hourglass | Bust within 5% of hips, waist at or below 80% of hips, and high hip at or below 95% of hips. |
| Rectangle | Bust within 5% of hips, with a waist above 80% and below 88% of hips, or a high hip above 95% of hips. |
These thresholds are Bodytype's own styling rules. They are not a medical standard, an anthropometric standard, or a diagnosis. Near a boundary, a small difference in tape position can change the reading; the result card says when a value is close to one.
Scope
This page does not use CDC, WHO, or other institutional measurement data, and it does not claim their endorsement. The four measurement positions are Bodytype's operating convention, and the classification thresholds are Bodytype's styling rules, version 1, published above.

Questions
You can get a styling reference from the ratio between your bust, waist, high hip, and hip measurements. Enter the four values in the calculator and it compares them locally. The result describes a proportion pattern, not your health, weight, identity, or worth.
Measure your waist at the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above the navel, keeping the tape level and snug without compressing the skin. Breathe out normally before reading the tape. The form, the guide, and this answer all use the same position.
It is an approximate proportion reference, not a medical measurement or health assessment. Tape position, posture, clothing, and the rule thresholds can change a reading, especially near a boundary; the result card names those borderline cases instead of claiming precision.
The calculator uses four circumference measurements: bust, waist, high hip, and hips. All four are required, and you can enter them in centimetres or inches.
No. The calculation runs in your browser and no measurement is sent to a server. A result link is created only when you choose to copy it, and that link contains the measurements you entered.
